Adapting IRIS, a Non-Interactive Narrative Generation System, to an Interactive Text Adventure Game
نویسندگان
چکیده
The IRIS story generation system is a narrative planner that is designed to create suspenseful stories at the story-action level. The system has been previously shown to be able to create suspense in a non-interactive context. We show that, when a series of transformations on the original IRIS output are applied, the IRIS framework is also effective at creating suspense in the context of an interactive text adventure game.

Curveship: An Interactive Fiction System for Interactive Narrating
Interactive fiction (often called “IF”) is a venerable thread of creative computing that includes Adventure, Zork, and the computer game The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as well as innovative recent work. Simulation is a common feature in computer entertainment. However, in computer games simulation and story are often kept distinct by interleaving interactive play and cut scenes. We describe a technique for an interactive narrative system that more closely integrates simulation and storyline. The technique uses a combination of semi-autonomous character agents and high-level story direction. Th...

Narrative-rich game genres such as role playing games and adventure games aim at specific dimensions of user enjoyment. Technology development in “Interactive Storytelling” will enrich such narrative-based player experiences in the near future, yet the conceptualization and empirical assessment of how players respond to interactive narrative and their own role within the game story is underdeve...
متن کاملTransferring Game Mastering Laws to Interactive Digital Storytelling
The Interactive Dilemma is the inevitable conflict between author’s determinism and interactor’s freedom. There are some approaches that try to tackle it, using strategies and heuristic rules that can combine on the fly the previously designed author material with the run-time decisions of the interactor. Interactive Narrative is a relatively new field and it is difficult to find formal studies...
